Portfolio Progress Report 7

5/21/10

I’ve been working on the architectural piece for a while now and it’s starting to turn into something I actually like! I’m enjoying working with the watercolor and canvas and like trying to figure out washing out color and shadowing for the building. I am just about done and now getting ready to put everything together for the art show.

Portfolio Progress Report 6

5/7/10

I have been working on my architectural drawing skills and starting to come up with a canvas building piece. I’ve finished the landscape piece, finally, and have done work in my sketchbook as well as abstract pieces. I am excited to work on the architectural piece and hope it turns out as I plan.

Portfolio Progress Report 5

4/23/10

I have been working on a pastel landscape piece. It is coming along very slowly but I enjoy working on it. If I want to continue to work on this piece, I should work on other things for the art show at home because I need to have more work.

Portfolio Progress Report 4

3-19-10

It’s my birthday!! :) For the past two weeks I have been working on the clock project. Each day I have worked on a different piece, varying the clocks and giving definition to the already painted pieces of newspaper. This is getting to be too repetitive, but I’m almost done! Now I need to start thinking of a new project.

Portfolio Progress Report 3

3-5-10

After doing several random pieces that did not really go together for a series, I decided to focus on one style from a piece I did. On newspaper, I have been repeating the single object of the clock in different positions on the paper. All 6 pieces are the same size and color with the same medium with only the clock’s position moving. I have prepared all the paper and will now begin drawing the clocks.

2-19-10

I am continuing the series I am working on. I have been trying to work on minimalism and finding small ways to “complete” the piece. I have stopped working on pieces and moved on to new ones when I wasn’t sure what to do next. I don’t know if I will go back to them or not.  I think I need to start a new project. I’d like to combine abstract and traditionalist aspects into my work more often.

Portfolio Progress Report 1

2-5-10

I am making art. My pieces seem to be more abstract and out of my comfort zone and I am trying to learn how to accept art making that I do not love and to take risks and learn from my mistakes. I have been doing a series of scraped paint on butcher paper. I am enjoying this although it is a challenge for me.

SECOND SEMESTER

—————————————————————————————————————–

Portfolio Progress Report 7

1-15-10

I’ve gone back to working on an older piece of four portraits. I am now extending the piece to include their entire bodies. So far I like the progress I have made and I am trying to figure out if I should continue to expand it or if their piece is complete.

Portfolio Progress Report 6

12-18-09

I’ve been working on a more abstract level and trying to experiment with new ideas and techniques. I have been doing more sketchy kind of work and trying to incorportate more text into my pieces. I’m trying to have fun with art because I think I need to relax in order to get better work.

Portfolio Progress Report 5

12-4-09

I restarted on the canvas and turned it into an abstract face. I started text on it one day that I was pissed and never finished my thought. Now that Im not longer upset, I dont know how to finish it! I’m stuck on where to go with it at the moment so I’ve decided to start sometihng new and come back to it.

Portfolio Progress Report 4

11-20-09

I finished the portrait pieces and put them together into one configuration. I then started working with strips of weaved canvas to form a piece that may or may not be complete. I am now working on a new canvas piece which I am not happy with and I may repaint the canvas and start over.

Portfolio Progress Report 3

10-16-09

I have been working on four pastel portrait pieces. I am just about finished them and I now need to figure out how to piece them all together. I have to figure out if I want to use all four pieces together or just use three. There is one that doesn’t seem to match the others. Decisions, decisions. I also need to think of a new project soon. I know that I need to work on pieces of observational drawing for my portfolio so I think that is what my next project will be based on.

Portfolio Progress Report 2

10-2-09

On an “off day” I decided that I would fake it during class and ended up painting a 18 x 24 piece of paper completely black using house paint. The next day I tried drawing a portrait on this paper using white oil pastel. I liked this media and gave the portrait highlights of color using the oil pastels. I enjoyed doing this and decided to incorporate it into my proposal. So I have put my original project on hold and have been working on these new media portraits. I have just about completed two portraits and plan to do two more and then put them together in the end.

Portfolio Progress Report 1

9-18-09

In the past two weeks I have been working on a pencil portrait. I am pleased with the progress I have made; however, I am going at a very slow rate. The goal was to have the first part of the project complete in a week and a half but now I expect to finish it by Monday, 9-21 which extends my predicted time. I have a remainder of four weeks to complete the remaining three portraits.

I am thinking about revising my project. The original proposal calls for four portraits of the same person; different medium and different expression. I’m realizing now that I may become bored of drawing the same person repetitively. I may change the project to different people, expressions, and mediums and will probably continue to put the pieces together in the end.

I am trying to draw the portrait as precisely as possible. I haven’t done this type of technical drawing in a long time which makes the task challenging yet rewarding.
